Shot Put Information –
1. Shot put competition will begin at 5:30pm, at which time we will allow for 15 minutes of practice for boys and girls before starting the event. No practice should occur until the official in charge of the shot put is present. At 5:45pm, practice throwing will end and no more practice will be allowed.
2. All competitors will be given 3 throws.
3. Shot put competition will be conducted in a manner consistent with open pit long jumping. Depending on who reports at the start of the event, we may mix girls and boys. In order to complete this event in a timely manner but also allow athletes in running events to still participate in the shot put, there will be no specific flights for throwers. All athletes will be allowed to compete as long as they report prior to the conclusion of the event (to be announced).
4. Directions to the shot put area are provided below. All throwers should be escorted to the shot put area by an adult – either a parent or coach. This is a very important safety-related issue. If an athlete is observed walking to the shot put area without an adult, then the shot put official reserves the right to not allow that athlete to compete in the shot put. Shot put officials will also be instructed to verify that each athlete was escorted to the shot put area by an adult.
Directions: from the UofL track stadium, travel south on Floyd Blvd through the traffic signal at Warnock and then turn right at Old Eastern Parkway (which lies below Eastern Pkwy). Go below the railroad tracks to the first street and turn left. You’ll see a sign that says “Louisville Track and Field” right above the entrance to the shot put area.
